VTech CMS launches lead-free soldering process this month. CMS works together with Alpha Metal, Senju Metal and NEC on lead-free soldering. After long term study, alloy SAC305 (Sn96.5/3.0Ag/0.5Cu), which is the most popular in the world, is adopted by CMS as lead-free solder alloy.

In order to cope with the lead-free soldering process, VTech CMS introduces new wave soldering machine which is designed for lead-free soldering.

Evaluations for solder joint strength test and high-low temperatures and humidity tests were carried out to test and check the solder-ability, solder joints quality and reliability of lead-free soldering. The process is under control and all tests were passed.

PCB assemblies with lead-free soldering have been shipped to CMS customer. The process was recognized by the customer.
